It was earlier being expected that the Mi 5 will be announced but rather than that happening, Xiaomi announced the Mi Pad 2 and the Redmi Note 3 instead. There were also some rumors that the Mi 5 would be launching on December 3 before that. But neither of these rumors came out to be true.
A recent interview with Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun also revealed some details about it. He said that the development time for each of their flagship devices is about 12 to 18 months which is a bit longer than most of its rivals. This makes their phones “close to perfect” when they’re launched after a whole lot of testing and choosing the best available components for its build. He also added that he’s currently using a Mi 5 prototype and is surprised with it and considers it amazing.
Pan Jiutang who predicted the Huawei Nexus phablet specs has said that the Mi 5 will be launched in January 2016 and will go on sale on February 2016, after the Spring festival in China. He also said that Xiaomi is manufacturing its Mi 5 fast to fulfill the customer needs when the device launches.
As per rumors before, the Mi 5 is also being rumored to sport 4GB RAM, Adreno 530 GPU and a 5.3″ QHD screen with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels (554ppi) and will come in 16GB and 64GB variants with no microSD support. It’ll also sport a 16MP rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash and for the juice, it is said to have 3030mAh battery.
